Pakistan salary tax slabs

Salary tax is progressive. The percentage for each slab applies only to income above that slab’s threshold, plus the fixed tax carried forward from lower slabs.

How the estimate works

  1. Convert the entered salary to an annual taxable amount.
  2. Find the applicable progressive salary slab.
  3. Add fixed tax from the completed lower slabs.
  4. Apply the marginal rate to income above the threshold.
  5. Divide annual tax by twelve for a monthly estimate.
02

Taxable vs gross salary

Gross remuneration and taxable salary are not always identical. Benefits, allowances, exemptions and adjustments may receive different treatment.

For a complex salary structure, use this as a preliminary estimate and have the final computation checked.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

What is a salary tax calculator?+

It estimates income tax by applying progressive tax slabs to the taxable salary entered. This calculator shows annual tax, monthly deduction, net salary and effective tax rate.

Which tax year does this calculator use?+

It uses the salaried-person schedule for Tax Year 2027, corresponding to financial year 2026-27 and income earned from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.

Is this an official FBR tax calculator?+

No. This is an independent informational tool and does not replace an FBR return, assessment or professional computation.

Can I calculate tax from my monthly salary?+

Yes. Select Monthly Salary and enter the monthly taxable salary. The tool annualises it and displays monthly and annual estimates.

What is the difference between marginal and effective tax rate?+

The marginal rate applies to the top portion of salary. The effective rate is total estimated tax divided by total taxable salary.

Is gross salary always the same as taxable salary?+

Not necessarily. Benefits, allowances, exemptions and other adjustments can cause taxable salary to differ from gross remuneration.

Does the calculator include income from business or property?+

No. Business, property, capital gains and investment income can require different tax treatment.

Will my employer deduct exactly the same monthly amount?+

Not always. Bonuses, arrears, exempt components, prior deductions and payroll adjustments can change employer withholding.

Do I pay any tax if my annual salary is below PKR 600,000?+

No. Salary up to PKR 600,000 a year falls in the 0% slab, so no income tax is due at that level under the current schedule.

How are bonuses or one-off payments taxed?+

Bonuses and one-off payments are generally added to your annual taxable salary and can push part of your income into a higher slab. This calculator does not model bonuses separately, so treat the result as an estimate.

Are allowances and reimbursements included in taxable salary?+

Some allowances are taxable and some are exempt depending on their nature and applicable rules. Confirm the treatment of your specific allowances with your employer or a tax adviser before relying on the estimate.

Can freelancers or self-employed individuals use this calculator?+

This calculator is built for salaried, employment income only. Freelance, business and self-employed income is taxed under different rules and is not covered here.

Does the calculator apply tax credits or rebates?+

No. Credits and rebates that may apply to specific individuals, such as for eligible donations, investments or certain categories of taxpayers, are not included in this estimate.

How often do Pakistan's salary tax slabs change?+

Salary tax slabs are usually announced with the Federal Budget each year and take effect from 1 July for the new tax year. Always confirm the applicable slabs for your tax year before filing.

What should I do if I don't have an NTN yet?+

You can register for an NTN through FBR before filing a return. See our NTN registration guide for the documents and steps needed.
